Inspiration Perspective

Sometimes it's easy for me to feel inspired and other times it isn't.  For me the feeling of inspiration isn't the same thing as felling motivated.  Inspiration feels different to me; it's more of a light and happy perspective about anything I see that is beautiful.  I feel inspiration when I'm outdoors in nature seeing God's art, and I feel inspiration when I see man's art.  Sometimes I even feel inspired just looking around my home; it's simple, functional, and beautiful.  Best of all it's something I put together, you know; making a house a home.

I fill my home with bits of nature, music, photos of our life, a lot of sunlight whenever possible, and great memories.  Even all those rolls of leather in the corner of my little dinning area means something is happening in my life; something inspiring.

On days when I can't spend time outdoors, or when I can't find anything new and inspiring on the internet, I look around my home and always find something special and inspiring.

Nesting: Window Treatments with Pictures of Our Life

I absolutely love looking at my Instagram photos (@eidolonhouse) or my camera roll on my iPhone, because I like reliving snippets of our life I guess.  I'm not a person who has ever scrap-booked, but I take enough photos to fill several binders.  As it is now, my scrapbook is DROPBOX, several different DROPBOX accounts to be exact, with a lot of folders filled with pictures organized by date.  One day I'll organize all of my photos, but it's not a project I plan to take on anytime soon.

My decorating style isn't too fancy, and since the majority of our home is our studio, I thought it would be fun to hang some of our favorite snapshots from the past couple of years.  I downloaded THIS app, called Printic on my iPhone and picked about 40 pictures to have printed and mailed to me.  It's that easy too, select the pictures you want from your camera roll, Instagram, or Facebook photo albums, and you'll receive them in the mail in about a week.  The app allows you to crop the photos and add some text if you want to add a description to the photo.

I (with the help of Joseph), strung up twine across our windows in our studio and living room and hung our snapshots from little metal clips.  This was a simple project and inexpensive too!  However, adding bits of our life around the rooms adds an inviting and comfortable feel to our home.

I used twine that we've had around the house for some time now, I think Joseph bought the twine from a hardware store.  I bought THESE clips from IKEA, they can be ordered online for just $2.99.  I used little eyelets like THESE, and strung up the photos.  I think the hardest part of this project was deciding what photos to hang.

Nesting: Eco Printing

One thing I've tried to narrow down for the past little while is my style in fashion and in home decor.  I don't like what I liked 10 - 15 years ago when it comes to home decor.  As I've searched websites, magazines, pinterest, and random Google searches I've determined my home decor style is rustic farmhouse with a French twist. 

A few weeks ago I was searching eco dying websites and stumbled across eco printing (there is a difference), and I thought to myself, how have I not heard of eco printing, and why haven't I tried it before?  I love natural fabrics and dying natural fabrics using pieces of nature would be perfect!  I referred to THIS website for instructions and gave it a try for myself.  Here is my first try printing on new dish clothes for my kitchen!  I think they turned out pretty well.    

100% cotton cloth; soaked overnight in a mixture of alum and washing soda.

Ring out the cloth, lay it out on a flat surface and spread out collected leafs, flowers, even sticks.

Roll everything up in the cloth and secure the cloth with rubber bands or string.

Steam the rolled up cloth for one hour.  Let the rolls sit after steaming over night.

Unroll the cloth and see your beautiful printed fabric!

I love the beautiful yellow and browns and you can even see the shapes of the leaves!

I can't wait to eco print more dish cloths and who knows what else!
